Winner Cleantech National Competition in Singapore
Sunlabob Project Manager Simon Henschel represented Sunlabob at the Cleantech National Competition in Singapore in Oct 2010, and proudly took the title. The Cleantech Open runs the world's largest clean technology business competition and it looks for the best clean technology ideas from around the world. A prize package of services worth $ 100,000 will be awarded to entrepreneurs to start a business. First, participants need to participate in their national competition, and if they win their national competition, they get to represent their country as a Global Ideas finalist at the annual Cleantech Open Awards Gala on November 17, 2010 in San Jose, California. Ideas are presented in a five-minute pitch in front of a crowd of 2,500 investors, entrepreneurs, sponsoring companies, corporations, members of academia, press, and others interested in hearing ideas and getting involved. At the Cleantech Open Awards Gala, Simon Henschel presented a 5 min video on Sunlabob's Solar Powered Water Purification System. Though he did not win, the system definitely caught the attention of many members in the renewable energy business.

Sunlabob Director Andy Schroeter was one of three Social Entrepreneurs recognized as leading social innovators in Asia during the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2010, held in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, on 13-15 September. The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship was co-founded by Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, and his wife, Hilde. Since its inception in 2000, the Foundation has been identifying the world’s leading social entrepreneurs in over 40 countries around the globe. Social entrepreneurs implement innovative and pragmatic solutions to social problems by tackling the root causes and creating social transformation. Selected social entrepreneurs of the Schwab Foundation network participate in World Economic Forum events, thus providing unique opportunities for them to connect with business, political and media leaders.

Sunlabob has been awarded the National Energy Globe Award for Laos for the third consecutive year. Its project “Implementing village hybrid grids to improve rural livelihoods” was selected by the international Energy Globe Jury, and the award was presented at the Energy Globe national ceremony on 3 June 2010 in Rwanda’s capital Kigali. Over 800 projects, presenting successful sustainable environmental initiatives or that employ renewable energy, are submitted from all over the world to compete for this annual award in the categories Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth.
