On May 30, Sunlabob’s Head of Sales Andrea Buetler, together with Hydro Engineer Prabin Khanal, Sunlabob hydro engineer and consultant to Lao Institute for Renewable Energy's hydro projects, were participants at a workshop titled “Innovative Rural Electrification Approaches in the ASEAN”. The Renewable Energy Support Programme for ASEAN (ASEAN-RESP), a joint implementation project between the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), conducted the workshop in Bali, Indonesia. Regional and international stakeholders joined Sunlabob and LIRE representatives in identifying successful and sustainable business- and technical solutions for electrification programs serving the rural and remote areas in ASEAN. Best practices promoting sustainability and long-term feasibility, such as the Sunlabob’s worldwide-accredited community commercialization models, was the main focus of the workshop. Andrea Buetler shared the Solar Lantern Rental Model as a keynote speaker, followed by best practice experience and a vivid discussion about experiences in South East Asia and globally with similar technologies and their inclusion into viable community approaches.
The outcomes of the discussions in Bali will help to set a basis for an “ASEAN policy Guide on Rural Electrification”, which will be shared among all ASEAN member countries and used as guideline for new starters and experienced players expanding their activities in the region.
